Vietnam in 2026: north to south, when to go, and the long-stay options

Vietnam is 1,650km long with three distinct climate regions that don’t sync. Pick wrong and the rains follow you for weeks. Below: when to go where, the standard 10-day itinerary, and what teaching English actually pays now.

The essentials

Best time	Late February to April — all three regions are dry. Avoid Tet week (Feb 17, 2026).
North vs South	North (Hanoi): cool dry Oct–Dec. South (Saigon): dry Dec–Apr. Central (Hoi An): dry Feb–Apr.
Visa	e-Visa $25, 90-day validity, online (3 working days). Multiple entry available.
Cost	Backpacker: $30–$50/day. Mid-range: $60–$100. Comfort: $120–$200.
